"... no one is afraid of Winnipeg.... " - Mr. Murray

I still hate you all.

I went to go see Harry Potter last night. My my my.... what a comely fellow lil' Radclife is...

AWOOOOOOOOOGAH AWOOOOOOOGAH Pedophile alert!

The movie was agreeable, but pretty freakin' scary for something targeted at kids. I got scared watching it! But the special effects were astounding well done. Time referencing was a tad sketchy, they had the progression of the seasons, but it was like the characters didn't exist or evolve besides the time we saw them. And Harry et al's scrapes can't have lasted a whole season. Overall I give it twelve small children with runny noses and too much sugar.

Friday day was most exciting! I took the road less travelled and didn't go into work! I still was up early-ish though to see Glenn Murray speak. I've never seen him in person before, and he really is a very charasmatic man. He was so confident, and his speech (sans notes) was intelligent and articulate. However, holy crap can that man ever talk! Half an hour answer per question was a tad long, but he still kept the attention of the audience. He provided many nuggets of ideas for future endeavours, which partially shows that he isn't just switching to the Federal level because he has expired his mayoral abilities. He seems very intent on creating a more vibrant and economically prosperous country, but (unlike others) has feasible options.

The evening before Mr Murray I heard the Chief Justice McLoughlin talk. This woman is astounding. I can only hope to be so elegent, poised and successful when I am that age. Her story is quite enlightening, and her very mannerisms make you feel comfortable around her, and help build her as a role model. I can only imagine how difficult it would have been for a woman to retaliate against societal norms and join the work force, as opposed to just starting a family. Especially in law, a predominantly male field. She talked primarily about what role the judicial system plays in a democratic society. She didn't so much attack the topic as dance around it, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. Her argument broke down a judge's position into many myths that the population believes to be truth regarding the legal system. But quite possibly my favorite comment of hers was regarding what actually being a Supreme Court judge is like: "It's like being married to eight people.... but you don't get to choose them!" Admittedly it loses it's comedic quality when reiterated in a weblog, but she said it so seriously, with this fantastic smirk on her face.

Tonight I head out for fun and games with ex-BHers. And then tomorrow *cross fingers that it doesn't rain* I'm going to the beach! Reportedly the weather is meant to be fantastic, about 29? Hmm... that actually seems obscenely high, maybe 25? I was meant to go to the beach on Friday with Paul *smile* but to no avail, given the state of momentous tutoring and last minute scholarship applications.

So my people, away with me.
